Tom Daly, one of four Democrats running to replace termed out Assemblyman Jose Solorio, in the heavily Latino 69th Assembly District, finally announced in a press release issued today that he is running for this seat. A poll the Daly campaign conducted recently have indicated that Daly is leading the pack of Democrats, with about a quarter of the vote. However 28% of those polled did not indicate who they were going to vote for. Whoever gets the undecided support is going to win in June.
The leading Hispanic candidate for the seat is Santa Ana Council Member Michele Martinez, who 13% of those polled by Daly’s campaign said they would support. The least popular candidate in the poll was labor hack Julio Perez, who got only 4% support. That makes sense given the fact that Perez is totally unknown to the voters, and his politics are far too liberal for the moderate 69th Assembly District.
It should be noted that Daly’s campaign is still lacking a website. I emailed them and got no response about this. Nor did they answer their campaign phone number.

TOM DALY FILES TO RUN FOR STATE ASSEMBLY
Orange County Clerk-Recorder Formally Files Paperwork & Declares Candidacy to Succeed Termed-Out State Assemblyman Jose Solorio in Central Orange County’s 69th State Assembly District
SANTA ANA – Orange County Clerk-Recorder, and former Anaheim Mayor, Tom Daly has filed paperwork with the Orange County Registrar of Voters and declared his candidacy to become a formal candidate for central Orange County’s 69th State Assembly District. The seat will become vacant this fall with the departure of termed-out State Assemblyman Jose Solorio, who has endorsed Daly’s effort to replace him.
“As a lifelong resident of the 69th Assembly District who has represented the area as a city and county elected official, I believe I have the experience to help make Sacramento productive again,” said Daly. “I intend to make a difference for the residents and business community of Anaheim, Garden Grove, Orange, and Santa Ana.” He plans to focus his campaign and work in the State Legislature on creating jobs and improving schools.
Daly would bring a solid record of experience and a history of results with him to the State Legislature. Presently the only countywide elected Democrat in Orange County, he has served the last ten years as Orange County’s elected Clerk-Recorder. Prior to his election as Clerk-Recorder, Daly served as Mayor of Anaheim for ten years, as an Anaheim City Councilman for four years, and as member of the Anaheim Union High School District Board of Trustees for three years.
As Mayor of Anaheim, Daly helped build the largest budget surplus in the city’s history, increased police patrols, opened After School programs to help youngsters with school work and stay out of trouble, and developed eight new City parks throughout the city. As Clerk-Recorder, he’s led an agency with the lowest property recording fee among California’s counties, and recently won Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government award for innovation.
Daly has assembled a respected campaign team for his Assembly race. Richie Ross of Ross Communications has been retained as his lead consultant and strategist, Genelle Buchert of Buchert Consulting is handling fundraising, and Jessica Mejia will be running the campaign’s field program. They’ve all been part of winning campaign teams in Orange County and other parts of the state.
“I’m proud of my campaign team and also the growing list of local elected officials and community and business leaders who have endorsed my candidacy,” said Daly. “We plan on running an aggressive and smart campaign.”

Having no campaign website is just plain stupid — just tells us he’s got nothing to say and, more importantly, isn’t interested in attracting any money.
Did you notice he hasn’t had many accomplishments as the clerk-recorder? That has been his job for the past ten years. Nothing to show for it in accomplishments. That Harvard award he bought it had Jean Pasco up those people’s asses until they gave him the award for a system that works for everyone but orange county. Remember this is the idiot that negotiated anaheims ability to keep los angeles out of of the Angels name. With those negotiation skills he thinks he can do something in the assembly. Sorry Tom your not big enough to play with the big boys in sac town.
