Why are the OC tea partiers ripping Campbell but giving Spitzer a free pass?

The OC GOP machine has Supervisorial candidate Deborah Pauley in her sights.  The results are predictable.  They are hammering her from all sides and now the OC Political blog, which is comprised of OC GOP insiders, is reporting that “In the 3rd Supervisorial District race, she has pulled neither the Ballot Designation Worksheet nor her Declaration of Candidacy form.”

This came after the OC Weekly reported that “on the night of February 5, when Pauly and her husband, James, enjoyed a night out at Mr. Stox in Anaheim. James drove down Katella Avenue and into a Orange Police Department DUI checkpoint run by Officer Armando Plascencia, the Wilt Chamberlain of DUI arrests in California. To evade the checkpoint, James swerved into a driveway, crashed his Porsche onto the curb, and got stuck.”

It doesn’t look good for Pauley.  In fact her opponent, union lover Todd Spitzer, may end up getting elected to the 3rd Supervisorial District without facing an opponent.  But here’s a question – why is the OC GOP’s tea party contingent attacking U.S. Rep. John Campbell so rabidly while they give Spitzer a free pass?

Here’s another good question – why did tea partier John Webb opt to run a hopeless campaign against Campbell instead of running against the far more dreadful Spitzer?

The answer is obvious.  Webb used to be a CHP officer.  He was a public employee – and he will surely retire with a fat public pension the rest of us will be stuck paying for.

Therein lies the rub.  Campbell had one bad vote – for TARP.  Spitzer has been a union hack his whole life.  But the tea partiers are okay with that.  That is just plain nuts!

Spitzer incidentally will be replacing another big union hack – the termed out Supervisor Bill Campbell.

The truth of the matter is that despite the Baugh manifesto – which was OC GOP Chairman Scott Baugh’s promise that the OC GOP would not endorse any candidates who get union support, union members and their backers have found safe harbor at the Republican Party of Orange County.

Just look at the three announced Republican candidates for the 69th A.D. delegation on the OC GOP Central Committee: Thomas Gordon – an employee of the LAUSD; Lupe Moreno – an employee of the Orange County Health Department; and Charles Hart – a middle manager at the County of Orange.  These people call themselves conservatives but they are all public employees – I am sure they are all ardent supporters of Spitzer too…

  1. Actually...

There’s a really simple explanation for why Webb isn’t running for Supervisor: he lives in the Fifth Supervisorial District, which isn’t even up for election this year.
