The Republican Party of Orange County is saddled with a terrible candidate for the 34th State Senate District, in the form of corrupt O.C. Supervisor Janet Nguyen, but that is not stopping them from spending money on a website that is attacking the top Democrat running for that seat, former Assemblyman Jose Solorio.
Shirley L. Grindle, author of the county’s campaign finance law, sent an email to Supervisor Janet Nguyen on Thursday, advising Nguyen to return one of the two maximum contributions she received during her 2012 bid for supervisor: a $1,700 donation from the Orange County Employees Association PAC in 2009, or a $1,700 donation from the OCEA-funded California Citizens for Fair Government political committee in 2010, according to the O.C. Register.
Nguyen said in an email to the OC Register’s Watchdog last week that she didn’t know CCFG and CCFGW were funded by OCEA, but she did not feel misled and would have accepted their contributions regardless. Continue reading
Orange County’s lame Republican leaders appear to be backing Supervisor Janet Nguyen for the 34th State Senate District. This week at the Azteca Mexican Restaurant in Garden Grove, California Republican Party Chairman Jim Brulte joined county GOP Chairman Scott Baugh and a host of key Republican financiers and elected officials from across Orange County for a “kick off” fundraiser for Nguyen’s state Senate bid.
It is highly ironic that Nguyen held this fundraiser at Azteca – their Orange County health permit was suspended in July of this year due to a cockroach infestation! Click here for the gory details. Continue reading

Solorio Receives Early and Important Labor Endorsements for his 2014 Senate Race
These endorsements, plus a $450,000 campaign warchest, position Solorio as strong candidate in the 34th Senate District
Santa Ana, CA – Community College Trustee Jose Solorio announces he has received an important statewide endorsement from the California Nurses Association and several local endorsements from the Anaheim Firefighters (Local 2899), Carpenters Union (Local 803), International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (Local 441), Ironworkers Union (Local 443) and the Laborers’ Union (Local 652). Janet Nguyen has raised just $4,600 specifically for her Senate bid in the first half of the year, although she also transferred another $106,000 from her supervisorial campaign account, according to the O.C. Register. After expenses, that left her with $104,000 on hand as of June 30 – but she has another $347,000 in a 2020 supervisorial campaign account, most of which she can also transfer to the Senate campaign treasury.
But will any of this avail her if the ongoing FBI and FPPC investigations into Nguyen’s fundraising efforts results in criminal charges – that most likely would start with a raid of her office and perhaps her home as well? Continue reading
State Senator Lou Correa will term out in the 34th State Senate District in 2014. The Republican who replaced him on the Orange County Board of Supervisors, Janet Nguyen, is all in for this race as is Jose Solorio, the former state legislator who is now a College Trustee in Santa Ana.
Jim Silva, a former Republican State Assemblyman in the Huntington Beach area is also running for the 34th. I am not aware of any other candidates although I hear that labor consultant Julio Perez, who lost in the 2012 Primary Election when he ran for the 69th Assembly District, could jump into this race just to cause trouble for Solorio.
