“In a stark display of how politically isolated Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait has become, the City Council majority Tuesday night refused to increase funding for the mayor’s policy aide position, leaving him without any staff to help with the daily work that faces his office,” according to the Voice of OC.
The Voice of OC also reported that “Tait had requested that his office budget be increased by $30,000 so his policy aide, Mishal Montgomery, could be compensated through the end of the fiscal year in June. As it stands, the money to pay her ran out last month.”
Here’s the rub – Tait’s one ally on the Anaheim City Council, Lucille Kring, who won last November with major help from Tait, refused to support his request for more staff funding. She left him dangling. ” Kring has also recently changed her positions on districting,” according to the Save Anaheim blog.
I did not support Kring, after she went off on immigrants and the Dream Act at a meeting of the OC GOP endorsement committee last year. I backed Duane Roberts, the Green Party member who has now started his own Anaheim blog.
The behavior of the Anaheim City Council is intolerable. Tait was elected to be the Mayor of Anaheim and they are denying him the resources to do his job. This is happening in Santa Ana as well, where the Council recently ran off their City Manager, Paul Walters, and will end up blowing over a million dollars to remove him and overpay his temp successor. They were of course attacking Mayor Miguel Pulido by going after Walters.
