Gay activists are trying to force themselves on the Tet Parade again

Karina Onofre Banner

Viet Rainbow of Orange County

A group of gay activists are goint to be lobbying the Westminster City Council at their next meeting, on Wednesday, December 11, at 6 pm, to try to force their way into the 2014 Tet Parade, which is funded by a private non-profit organization.

This is of course ridiculous.  Gay rights have nothing to do with the Tet Festival, which is a celebration of the Chinese New Year, which is celebrated in Vietnam as well.

I would be just as opposed to having other strident political groups in the parade, such as PETA.  Their causes have nothing to do with the parade – which is a family event.

To make matters worse these antagonists refuse to promise not to make out while they are marching in this parade – sexualizing a family event.  That is beyond disturbing.

This has nothing to do with equality. This is an attempt by one organization with narrow interests to force themselves on another one – and the parade organizers have a religious objection to this message.  They have rights too don’t they?

If these gay protestors want to parade then why don’t they pay for one?  Why not put on a Harvey Milk Parade to coincide with the annual Harvey Milk celebration in Downtown Santa Ana?  I would support that!  But forcing themselves on the Tet Parade is not right.

Now if the Tet Parade was funded by a public entity, such as the City of Westminster, that would be a different matter.  But it is privately funded and that is something this rabid bunch just doesn’t seem to understand.

Here is their message about the event, from their Facebook Page:

WHAT: Westminster City Council will be discussing their permitting plans and the exclusion of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning (LGBTQ) member’s participation in the 2014 Tet parade.

WHERE: Westminster Police Department, First Floor

WHEN: Wednesday, December 11, 6PM

WHY: Viet Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning community members, supporters, and allies will be present during the public comment session to urge the city council to take appropriate action and protect ALL City of Westminster citizens from exclusion. Vietnamese American LGBTQ individuals and their supporters encourage the city to take the appropriate actions in ensuring an inclusive and non-discriminatory cultural celebration. WE URGE YOU TO JOIN US IN VOICING OUR NEED FOR FULL EQUALITY OF ALL CITIZENS.

After the exclusion of LGBTQ members of the community from last year’s Tet parade by the parade organizer, THE VIET LGBT CONSTITUENTS WILL NO LONGER STAND TO BE SIDELINED at this year’s event. Our communities are not complete without each other.

VROC-Viet Rainbow of Orange County, a community-based organization, continues to fight for a Tet parade that is inclusive of all individuals regardless of sexual orientations and gender identities.

Since 2008 the city of westminster has helped fund the event but floats are paid for by private sponsors. They have had political floats before including Free Tibet and other human rights groups have marched as well. It is part of socal’s largest vietnamese new year celebration celebrating a diverse culture. Gays and lesbians should be allowed to be present as well. They should take an example from Jesus and be welcoming to all, besides, the festival is losing money and they’d be stupid to turn away anyone wanting to pay and participate.

    • The parade and the festival are separate entities. Gays have been welcome at the festival for years. The parade has been a success. The festival is looking for a new home.

    • “They should take an example from Jesus and be welcoming to all”……… Hmmmmmm

Historicaly and Biblicaly Jesus was not left-liberal-progressive-socialist.

      • Indeed. He was a laissez-faire ruthless capitalist who agreed with his masters, the Romans.

Never spoke a word against them.

        • On paying the Imperial Tax to Caesar, Jesus replies:

“Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”

By doing so Jesus clearly asserts that he is against any wealth redistribution as promoted by the left-liberal-progressive-socialists, homosexuals and Hollywood-Limousine-Wall-street Jews including but not limited to two (2) communists Nelson and Esq. Diamond from the orangejuiceblog

Did comments on an article about willful and blatant discrimination and homophobia really degrade into an argument over what Jesus said and what the (probable mis-) translation of it means over two-thousand years later when there is absolutely no context for comparison what-so-ever? Like, . . . really?

            • Inclusiveness and exclusiveness are essential genetic bases for any living organism to live or die.

I do not know to what extend your left-liberal-progressive-socialistic prejudices are baring you from fully utilizing your consciousness but you may find that over five-thousand years later there is absolute context for comparison to 10 commandments.
