The Libertarian Party has not yet responded to tonight’s State of the Union speech, by President Barack Obama, so in the meantime here is U.S. Senator Rand Paul’s video response:
The Fullerton Recall team made news this week when they turned in well over 50,000 signatures from Fullerton voters to initiate a recall election of Fullerton Council Members Don Bankhead, Dick Jones and Pat McKinley, according to the FFFF Blog.
Did you know that Bankhead, Jones and McKinley all have something in common? They were all endorsed by Congressman Ed Royce. (Supervisor Shawn Nelson endorsed Bankhead and Jones as well – which you have to believe he regrets now! Shame on whatever squish convinced him to make those awful endorsements). Continue reading
We broke the news on our New Santa Blog last November that Supervisor Bill Campbell, who thankfully is terming out after this year, has hired a new Chief of Staff – Laura Cunningham. But did you know she is still listed as a Principal at a lobbying firm she co-owns with her husband, Matt Cunningham?
That’s right. They own Pacific Strategies, a public relations and public affairs company that, supposedly taps “years of government and political experience to assist you in building support for initiatives and projects, creating positive awareness of your organization or project and guiding clients through the governmental process. We’re experienced with effective strategies for favorably influencing elected leaders, government officials, and community and opinion leaders—building coalitions and mobilizing opinion in support of your goals, and neutralizing critics. Our clients are the beneficiaries of relationships we’ve nurtured during the course of nearly two decades.” Yep, lobbyists! Continue reading
Did you know that neither the Democratic Party of Orange County nor the Republican Party of Orange County offer their websites in Spanish or Vietnamese? It doesn’t cost anything to include a Google Translate widget on your website. I offer that feature on all of my blogs. Yet neither the red nor the blue parties in Orange County appear to give a damn about minority voters who may not be all that fluent in English.
When you run for office in Orange County, your ballot statement gets translated into several languages. That has actually been a factor in some races. So why don’t our red and blue parties at the very least install the free Google Translate widget on their website? It just goes to show you that neither of these parties really cares about anything other than getting their boys elected. Continue reading
It is a question worth pondering – should gay politicians remain in the closet? The problem I have with that is that some voters, generally Republicans, are anti-gay. That is their choice and it is a choice often steeped in religious values. I don’t share that view – but I respect that some people feel that way.
The problem as I see it is one of blatant dishonesty. What is a Democrat, for example, runs for a local office, say a City Council, and he runs a campaign with a conservative theme? Orange County Democrats do that quite often when they run for local offices, thereby fooling Republican voters. Now what if that Democrat is also a closeted homosexual? Isn’t he lying to these (Republican) voters by remaining in the closet? Is that ethical? Continue reading
O.C. Supervisor Janet Nguyen has done it again. A few years ago she voted against letter grade health ratings for Orange County restaurants. I outed the fact that her husband, Tom Bonikowski, and her then Chief of Staff, Andrew Do, co-owned a Lee’s Sandwiches franchise in Stanton that had received a multitude of health code violations, then I found out that she had accepted over $25,000 in campaign donations from owners of other restaurants with health code violations. She of course mentioned NONE of that when she voted against the letter grade health ratings.
Bonikowski later sold his part of the franchise to Do. Bonikowski ended up getting appointed to the Garden Grove Planning Commission. Do ended up resigning from his position with Nguyen, and from the Garden Grove City Council. The ultimate bag man was left holding the bag.
This time we are finding out that Nguyen got thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from Todd Theodora, the CalOptima lawyer who issued a secret report blasting CalOptima. His wife also contributed to Nguyen. Continue reading
