I just got off the phone with a reporter from the OC Weekly. She called to tell me that one of my opponents, Eleazar Elizondo, a liberal Democrat who once worked for U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer, doesn’t think I should be able to call myself a teacher because I work in Adult Education, at Cerritos Community College. Well that is interesting – apparently Elizondo is not aware that the Orange County Department of Education is heavily involved in Career Technical Education for adults!
The newly drawn California District 47 is an open seat due to redistricting from the 2010 census. This new District includes the following cities: Avalon, Cypress, Garden Grove, Lakewood, Long Beach, Los Alamitos, Signal Hill, Stanton, Rossmoor and Westminster.
There are two old Republican dinosaurs running in the open primary for the 47th. Gary DeLong is now serving his second term representing Long Beach’s 3rd District. Steve Kuykendall served in the United States House of Representatives from 1999 to 2001 representing California’s 36th Congressional District. Both of them are anything but vital.
The newly-designed 65th District will include all of Fullerton, Buena Park, La Palma, Stanton and Cypress. The new district will also have portions of West Anaheim, a small slice of Garden Grove and several unincorporated neighborhoods, according to a Norby newsletter.

Over 20% of the voters in this district are registered Decline to State. About 2% belong to third parties. Continue reading

The Voice of OC also reported that Ignacio Ochoa, who now heads the department’s engineering division, will take over as interim head of the OC Public Works Agency. Continue reading
