Did Orange County Supervisor John Moorlach endorse Los Alamitos Council Member Troy Edgar for the 72nd Assembly District? That is apparently the case. Edgar announced that endorsement at the 72nd A.D. candidates’ debate last night.
UPDATE: Supervisor Janet Nguyen may be up to her old tricks again. In the past she has used anonymous surrogates to do her dirty work, including buying URLs similar to those used by her political opponents, and redirecting them to nasty sites. Now an anonymous letter has been sent to the CalOptima board of directors Thursday accuses two board members — Chairman Ed Kacic and Mary Anne Foo — of improprieties, allegations both strongly denied, according to the Voice of OC. And it turns out that Kacis is only trying to help the community:
Kacic, president of the Irvine Health Foundation, said his organization belongs to the Managed System of Care, a group that includes the CEOs of all Orange County hospitals, the county Health Care Agency, the Veterans Administration, CalOptima, clinics, major medical groups and business interests. Supervisor Janet Nguyen, Chair of the Orange County Board of Supervisors, joins Deputy Chief of Staff Matthew Harper and OC Waste & Recycling Director Mike Giancola at the County’s First Green Vendor Fair
“Matthew Harper, a top aide to Supervisor Janet Nguyen, was quietly transferred this month from Nguyen’s office to OC Waste & Recycling as a public affairs manager. The move raised a few eyebrows in the supervisors’ fifth-floor offices in the county Hall of Administration,” according to the New Santa Ana blog.
Harper was a close friend of Supervisor Nguyen for many years, so why hasn’t she endorsed him, in his race for the 72nd Assembly District? Continue reading
Anaheim Council Members Gail Eastman and Kris Murray are members of the Advisory Committee of the SOAR (Support our Anaheim Resort) PAC (Political Action Committee. Both were endorsed by SOAR when they won seats on the Anaheim City Council in 2010. Yet they both voted last month to give “up to $158 million in tax incentives to build luxury hotels in the Disneyland area, despite opposition by city staff members,” according to the O.C. Register.
“The city will not provide any money up front for the $283-million hotel project, which is to include 866 four-star rooms. Instead, the hotels would get money later from hotel bed taxes. In Anaheim, guests pay 15 percent of their room rentals for the bed tax, which normally goes to the city,” according to another article in the O.C. Register. Continue reading
O.C. Supervisor Janet Nguyen has done it again. A few years ago she voted against letter grade health ratings for Orange County restaurants. I outed the fact that her husband, Tom Bonikowski, and her then Chief of Staff, Andrew Do, co-owned a Lee’s Sandwiches franchise in Stanton that had received a multitude of health code violations, then I found out that she had accepted over $25,000 in campaign donations from owners of other restaurants with health code violations. She of course mentioned NONE of that when she voted against the letter grade health ratings.
Bonikowski later sold his part of the franchise to Do. Bonikowski ended up getting appointed to the Garden Grove Planning Commission. Do ended up resigning from his position with Nguyen, and from the Garden Grove City Council. The ultimate bag man was left holding the bag.
This time we are finding out that Nguyen got thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from Todd Theodora, the CalOptima lawyer who issued a secret report blasting CalOptima. His wife also contributed to Nguyen. Continue reading
