California Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the appointment of Ashleigh Aitken, a Democrat and the daughter of the powerful attorney Wylie Aitken, to the Orange County Fair Board, according to a press release. Continue reading
O.C. Board of Education Trustee Long Pham is known for his GOP politics
Orange County Board of Education Trustee Long Pham is apparently going to run for reelection while also running for the 72nd Assembly District. That latter campaign is still in question, but Pham has poured a lot of money into that race and as recently as last week he was telling his associates the he is staying in. But he might be making a big mistake.
Pham represents Area One on the O.C. Board of Education. A close look at the redistricted map of the Board’s Area’s shows that he could easily lose to a Latino challenger as there are over 96,000 Latino voters in Area One, versus 64,367 Asian voters. The key for any Latino challengers would of course be to get Latino voters to the polls. There are also over 89,000 white voters in the district – and if no white candidate emerges, their votes could be the key to victory in Area One. There are no Latino Trustees currently serving on the O.C. Board of Education. Continue reading

John Santoianni Announces Candidacy for Anaheim City School Board
+ Endorsements from Anaheim Mayor Pro Tem Lorri Galloway & Rancho Santiago Community College District Trustee John Hanna
John Santoianni has announced that he will seek election to the Anaheim City School Board in the upcoming November elections with early support from two major elected officials.
Did Orange County Supervisor John Moorlach endorse Los Alamitos Council Member Troy Edgar for the 72nd Assembly District? That is apparently the case. Edgar announced that endorsement at the 72nd A.D. candidates’ debate last night.
UPDATE: Supervisor Janet Nguyen may be up to her old tricks again. In the past she has used anonymous surrogates to do her dirty work, including buying URLs similar to those used by her political opponents, and redirecting them to nasty sites. Now an anonymous letter has been sent to the CalOptima board of directors Thursday accuses two board members — Chairman Ed Kacic and Mary Anne Foo — of improprieties, allegations both strongly denied, according to the Voice of OC. And it turns out that Kacis is only trying to help the community:
Kacic, president of the Irvine Health Foundation, said his organization belongs to the Managed System of Care, a group that includes the CEOs of all Orange County hospitals, the county Health Care Agency, the Veterans Administration, CalOptima, clinics, major medical groups and business interests.
