For Immediate Release: FEBRUARY 22, 2018
ORANGE COUNTY, CA – Hon. Fred Whitaker, Chairman of the Republican Party of Orange County, released the following statement on the resignation of State Senator Tony Mendoza (SD 32):
“Hours after his Senate colleagues announced a vote to expel him from the State Senate, Senator Tony Mendoza resigned. A recent investigation concluded regarding inappropriate behavior between himself and six female staffers.
The 32nd district deserves better than Tony Mendoza and the State Senate was right to attempt to remove him, when he refused to remove himself for months. He joins Democrats Raul Bocanegra and Matt Dababneh who recently stepped down due to sexual misconduct allegations.
He also joins Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia who is on leave as she in under investigation for a number of allegations of sexual misconduct which includes groping male staffers and insisting staff members join her in a game of “spin the bottle.” Many who live where these two districts intersect now have no representation in Sacramento.
This is embarrassing. California has many issues to address. Yet, instead of servant leaders focused on the work the taxpayers elected them to do, the Democrats offer miscreants whose behavior wouldn’t last a day in the private sector. We need legislators who are ready to roll up their sleeves and get to work for their constituents – not entitled politicians who cannot control themselves and use the power the voters gave them to harass their employees.
The Republican Party will have a strong and principled candidate who will serve the people of the 32nd Senate District. It’s time for real leadership in Sacramento.”
