Democratic Party of Orange County Chair Fran Sdao releases statement on the retirements of Reps. Darrell Issa and Ed Royce
ORANGE, Calif. – Democratic Party of Orange County Chair Fran Sdao today issued a statement about the recently announced retirements of Reps. Darrell Issa (CA-49) and Ed Royce (CA-39).
“These retirements prove once again that voters want real change in 2018, and won’t accept anything less,” said Sdao. “Republican members of Congress have been taking this country backward, and they are quitting because they know they will lose.”
Sdao points to a seismic shift already underway in communities across Orange County. “These retirements won’t stop the growing tidal wave of progressive leadership we’re seeing. A new wave of strong Democratic leaders are stepping up to serve at every level of government,” said Sdao. “Voters want to move this country forward.”
Sdao noted that the Republican Party in Orange County is well known for grooming far-right extremist conservative protégés who rubber stamp the same agenda as Trump acolytes like Royce and Issa.
“Our local Republican Party said they are counting on their back bench to fill these seats, but their back bench is just as rotten as their star players,” said Sdao. “Voters want actual change, not a game of musical chairs.”
