AN OPEN LETTER TO THE FOUNTAIN VALLEY CITY MAYOR, THE CITY MANAGER, THE CITY COUNCIL AND THE FOUNTAIN VALLEY LEGAL COUNCIL
As I woke this morning, it gave me time and cause to recall the awful and shameful acts exercised last night by our Fountain Valley City Council Members at their Tuesday, December 13, 2016 meeting.
I am ashamed to admit that our Nice Place To Live City, Fountain Valley may have had Our Proud Fountain Valley Motto Tarnished Last Night beyond repair by the actions taken by our City Council.
As you all know, in Fountain Valley Our Mayor is not elected by the Fountain Valley Electorate but, are elevated by a next in line rotation of the 5 City Council membership.
This is and has been the accepted way that our Mayor and our Mayor Pro Tem are elevated into their yearly office responsibilities.
Last Night, according to the Cities Long Established Rotation Selection Method, our outgoing 2016 year Mayor Cheryl Brothers was to pass the gavel to Mayor Pro Tem John Collins and then, the next in line for Mayor Pro Tem was to be Councilman Mark McCurdy for the upcoming year 2017.
However, this didn’t happen last night as Councilman Mark McCurdy was denied the traditional Mayoral rotation, which includes the positions of Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem.
This denial appears to be because Councilman Mark McCurdy expressed a different opinion, regardless of how respectfully it was expressed, and exercising his position for standing up consistently on every vote for the people and the taxpayers he was elected to represent.
Apparently, these are the Basic Principles and Actions taken by Councilman Mark McCurdy that was viewed as not popular with the other 4 members of our City Council Last Night and Councilman Michael Vo was elevated to the title of Mayor Pro Tem for 2017 instead of Councilman Mark McCurdy.
It should be understood that Councilman Mark McCurdy came to be elected to our City Council not to be part of a collective “Team” of city insiders, but to represent the people of Fountain Valley that elected him.
This requires that he stands up for the people that he represents and that he votes his conscience that would be in the best interest for the City and the People of Fountain Valley no matter what the consequences would be to him personally.
So now, knowing this, it is now time for all us people that elected Councilman Mark McCurdy because of his Demonstrated Outstanding Principles and his Consistently to Serve the City and the Citizens as we all expected him to do to not leave him high and dry.
You must make an effort to Call the City Hall, Write Letters, Send E-mails to the City Mayor, the City Manager and the Fountain Valley Legal Council and Voice Your Opinions about what happened to Council Mark McCurdy and demand that the Actions carried out by the City Council be reconsidered, reversed and made right for Mark McCurdy!
The Action Required:
1.For sure, the Fountain Valley Legal Council owes us Citizens to provide his legal Opinion and position on what happened to Councilman Mark McCurdy last night.
Questions needing resolution:
As a minimum;
- Did Councilman Mark McCurdy act in a way that was not legal?
- Should Mark McCurdy be punished for doing exactly what he was supposed to do to vote his best conscience to serve the Citizens and Taxpayers of Fountain Valley that elected him?
- Shouldn’t the actions of elevating Council Michael Vo to Mayor Pro Tem be reversed and Council Mark McCurdy be elevated to Mayor Pro Tem for the year 2017?
