Orange Lutheran High School completed a facilities upgrade in 2014 for $15 million. Now the Orange Unified School District is asking voters to approve Measure S, a bond measure, that will provide $72 million per high school for similar upgrades. What gives?
Orange Lutheran is over 40-years old and enrolls 1,300 students. The 1-year-long upgrade and expansion project was funded with $5-million in school reserves, $5-million in financing and $5-million in donations. It added 40,000 square feet, ripped up floors, added technology upgrades, new furnishings, a comfy place for students to hang out with couches, flat-screen TVs and a coffee-juice bar …the works!
Why does OUSD think they will need a whopping $72 million per high school for similar upgrades?
The downside to bond measures, as we should all know by now, is that the residents end up having to pay interest equal to the amount of money generated by the bond measure. Bond measures are a vast rip-off! Too often the school board members use this money to reward their benefactors and campaign donors.
This might be why Rancho Santiago Community College District Trustee Arianna Barrios signed on to the Rebuttal to the Argument Against Measure S. Barrios is a P.R. hack who works primarily for former Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle – who is now one of the worst lobbyists in Orange County. Pringle and his acolytes specialize in wasting taxpayer money – usually by electing RINO Republicans and by passing bad bond measures.
Barrios also, as a RSCCD Trustee, supported the ridiculous RSCCD Foundation project involving consulting on a new school for men in Saudi Arabia. That project has been a complete disaster. A Canadian College lost millions trying to do something similar. You have to wonder why Barrios was happy to crawl into bed with the Saudis when they regularly execute people (by beheading them) and mistreat women and minorities! In fact the latest story on the Saudis is that they have been buying sex slaves from ISIS.
Barrios is more than happy to waste taxpayer money on the Saudis – so wasting our money on an excessive school bond measure is no sweat for her.
OUSD should be required to come up with a fiscally sound plan that actually fixes the schools and is not designed to line the pockets of bond financiers, consultants, construction management firms, attorneys and Wall Street investors. And creeps like Pringle and Barrios! (Not to mention fellow Pringle acolyte Anaheim Councilwoman Kris Murray – who signed on to the Argument in Favor of Measure S).
You would think that Pringle and company would have learned their lesson when they pushed to blow millions of taxpayer dollars on the the white elephant ARTIC train station in Anaheim. Nope! Now they want to blow millions more on Measures S.
BTW don’t forget that Barrios is being challenged on the Nov. ballot by fsically conservative Republican Rudy Diaz. Vote for Diaz and let’s dump Barrios from the RSCCD Board of Education!
