As you may know, the Fountain Valley City Council is trying to raise the sales tax in their city, via Measure HH, which is on the ballot this November.
Recently a Fountain Valley resident posed a question on the official Fountain Valley Facebook page asking why the page was promoting Measure HH – a very good question indeed. The resident also wondered why the person who was posting as the City of Fountain Valley apparently was posting from Indian Wells, CA. He wondered if perhaps this was a city employee posting at a cushy resort. Good question!
The city’s response was amazing. They wrote:
“Kenny, you have made offensive remarks about the city, about the Chamber of Commerce and FV Fountain Valley Living Magazine (which also has been pimping Measure HH). If you are supporter of Pat Tucker’s then Pat, he’s all yours. You two deserve each other.
Patrick Tucker, FYI, is a candidate for the Fountain Valley City Council. He is opposed to Measure HH.
Another candidate for the FV City Council, Kim Constantine, posted why she is opposed to Measure HH, in the Fountain Valley Community Forum page on Facebook:
- If passed by the voters, Measure HH will have tax negatives for a long 20 years for Fountain Valley residents involving delivered appliance / DMV registered item purchases (cars, trucks, motorcycles, motorhomes, RVs and boats). Yes, FV residents will pay more in tax no matter where you buy, while people don’t live in FV will pay less. You are reading this correctly, our residents will pay more if voters pass Measure HH, since it’s excessive.
- The TRUTH about the $100 million dollars plus the State took from the City of FV, on several occasions years ago, is that HAD we been using the money for redevelopment and/or capital improvement projects instead of it just sitting there, the money WOULD NOT have been taken. Please keep in mind, this did not happen at once….was from 2003 and ended in 2011 — current Council was seated during that time. Many have known this information for years. I said it twice and it most certainly could have been challenged by the incumbents, since we sparred on other issues as confirmed by a newspaper article).
- The City of Fountain Valley spent $620,000 on the “FV Crossings Plan” yet has not done any financials on this rezoning of approx. 162 acres at Ellis in our light manufacturing / industrial area; therefore, cannot claim it is financially lucrative. Yet another accurate statement not challenged by the incumbents (and yes, it could have been).
- The reality of both high-density residences and high-rise offices coming … up to 6 stories high. I don’t devalue our light manufacturing / industrial area as our Mayor who described the area as “underutilized” and “tired” in the Forum and negatively in a recent City Council Meeting.
- The 20-year sales tax increase, aka Measure HH, is EXCESSIVE. FV residents will pay more than those who don’t live here!
- Measure HH is bad for residents, bad for businesses, and bad for Fountain Valley.
We are endorsing both Tucker and Constantine. And we also oppose Measure HH. Read more about why HH is awful here.
The reality that the F.V. City Council is blissfully unaware of is that consumers have choices. In fact the OCTA is really hurting right now because so many consumers are shopping online instead of at local brick and mortar stores. This is hurting the OCTA’s ability to collect sales tax money via Measure M. This will also happen in Fountain Valley. Consumers will go to other cities to buy their big ticket items. Measure HH will kill local businesses and local jobs. It is time to vote out the bums on the F.V. City Council!
Also, the city mailed out an “impartial ” opinion on HH to city residents. The far from Solomonesque opinion was rendered by, you guessed it, the attorney for the city. Said opinion blatantly omits the fact that residents will be towing along the tax wherever they go.
Patrick Tucker has more class in his little finger than Kim Constantine does in her whole body. This was an honest mistake posted on the wrong page for about 15 seconds. Apologies were immediately issued. Patrick Tucker showed himself a class act by personally going to the Seeden house to discuss this and accept Curt’s apology. Kim just saw an opportunity to slam an ex-employer. That is another story in and of itself!
Is the tax increase an honest mistake too? Or perhaps more of a dishonest mistake?
Ahhhh, yes…. the “temporary” sales tax increase that will last a minimum of 20 years and negatively affect both residents (paying more in sales tax no matter where you buy your new or used vehicle, truck, boat, motorhome, or RV or have appliances DELIVERED to your Fountain Valley home and businesses (involving customer purchases and the business’ own capital improvements). Yes, Fountain Valley residents will pay more in sales tax, while people shopping here in Fountain Valley will pay less — since the sales tax you pay in these instances depend on where you live and/or where the purchase is delivered.
You are so wrong. This is not my post. I was MERELY ENDORSED by OCPolitics.com. Please be sure to go back and read the post, instead of wrongly attempting to slander my good name. 🙂
This was an honest mistake posted on the wrong site for about 15 seconds. Apologies were given immediately to all who may be offended. Patrick Tucker showed an admirable sense of class today by personally going to the Seeden’s home to discuss this and to accept Curt’s apology. Kim Constantine jumped on this as an opportunity to slam her ex employer…and why Curt is an ex-employer is a whole other story.
? You are so wrong. So odd to see this coming from a Fountain Valley Community Foundation Board Member. The post you are commenting on is not my post. The post does not mention anyone named “Curt”. I was MERELY ENDORSED by OCPolitics.com. Please be sure to go back and read the post, instead of wrongly attempting to slander my good name. 🙂 Really hopes this clears up all your confusion.
That is a blatantly large mistake to post on any page. Trying to minimize the damage done by the post and shift attention to other candidates and supposed hearsay falls short of a good explanation. DId I just read the same post twice above? Wow! How did that happen? The many faces of politics.
So true, Debora. And if it was this “Curt Seeden” posting, how on earth did he have access to logging in to the City’s Facebook page. Quite some time ago, his wife has stated she was no longer the City’s PIO (Public Information Officer). ?
Nice try. Who cares who apologized to who? The tax is a bad idea, the talking points put forth are pure rubbish, City Hall has no business politicking on either side of any measure, and municipal governments are notorious for soaking up the sun on the public dime. That’s what the comments were about. If that hurt the feelings of “volunteer administrators” then boo hoo. If certain members of the City Council and members of the community want to cast their lots with people who are out to soak taxpayers that’s their prerogative. But to expect citizens to turn a blind eye to malfeasance and then cry foul when called on it is laughable.
In addition, airing out dirty laundry via social media on a third person plus basis is one step above sending someone a note finding out if they like me by circling yes or no. What’s next, is Curt Seeden and his gang of ruthless insiders going to challenge me to a rumble behind 7/11?
🙂 I am laughing so hard right now.
You know, I don’t have a horse in this race and I accept the nice handshakes and the apologizes from Curt to Patrick.
I see all the accolades by all people but, I still have a problem with the City of Fountain Valley allowing a shill to spew a Character Assassination of a Challenger to the Incumbents on its official City Page.
Yes Curt said it was a mistake on his part and had trouble trying to delete it but, the problem I have is that it was allowed to happen in the first place. I don’t view this kind of action by the City of Fountain Valley as a Moral or a Ethical way and a major lack of control by the City of Fountain Valley on their Official City Facebook Page.
It is wrong that it happened but, the real problem is poor credibility and a real bad image toward the City of Fountain Valley for allowing it to happen in their name in the first place!
It shouldn’t had happened! The people are mis-guided and come away with a understanding that Kenny or Patrick were in the wrong. The Character Assassination of a Challenger to the Incumbents for City Council did make its view on the Cities official Facebook page!
I find it disturbing that some of you people can’t see the ramifications of a shill Administrator to its Official Facebook page is being able to Assassinate the Character of a Challenger to the Incumbents for City Council on its Official Facebook Page.
It disturbs me and others that some people find it as just OK because the person Apologized saying it was a mistake. The mistake shouldn’t had happened in the first place. You can’t see that the real issue is the City is not paying attention or Control to what is being presented on its Official City of Fountain Valley Facebook Page!
Since a few people are a little confused, thought I’d clear it up for them…
On Friday, 9/30 at 1:29 p.m., I shared the Ocpoliticsblog.com post on my Facebook timeline. I was very surprised to be endorsed by them and wrote, “Unbelievable”.
That was not my article, nor did it name anyone named “Curt Seeden”.
Then, on Saturday morning, I see a Facebook post by Curt that was made the night before… on Friday, 9/30 at 9:07 p.m. – stating he was the subject of the post, so I edited my timeline post to reflect “Unbelievable! … Am endorsed by OCPoliticsBlog for my stance AGAINST Measure HH”.
Yes, looking at the timestamps is key.
It’s always interesting to see people jump on the bandwagon and make assumptions.
P.S. Thank you SO MUCH for your endorsement! I will continue to do what I do best… stay involved here in Fountain Valley and spread AWARENESS. 🙂
My name is Tom Kent. I have no enemies in Fountain Valley that I know of. We are retired folks trying to live on a fixed income. So when I see a group trying to increase tax, I really become upset. It’s bad enough that Governor Brown “duped” the state of California people on a tax increase (which i voted against), but now I see the city I live in trying to do the same. Just when I thought, “I’m sure glad I don’t live in Bell, California” – – – – now I feel I do!! I was telling a person about the tax increase who is in favor of it that I cannot afford to buy a car if this goes through. The reply was that it would only be $300 on a thirty thousand dollar car. Here is my response, “I have in my hand three one hundred dollar bills. Do you prefer I give them to you or the City of Fountain Valley?” Well, folks, – – – what’s your answer? Has it hit home yet?????
