National Women’s Political Caucus Endorses Loretta Sanchez for the U.S. Senate
Orange, CA – The National Women’s Political Caucus (NWPC) endorsed Rep. Loretta Sanchez for United States Senate when they awarded the 10-term congresswoman with Distinguished Leader Award at their 45th Anniversary reception this past Saturday evening.
“We welcomed Loretta to Congress 20 years ago when she won her historic race against Bob Dornan and for two decades she has continuously fought for policies that strengthen and empower women,” said NWPC California President Sheri Loveland. “We know that as Senator, Loretta Sanchez will be a fighter for women’s issues and gender equality, which is why we are proud to back her candidacy for the United States Senate.”
The National Women’s Political Caucus is a pro-choice, multicultural, intergenerational, and multi-issue grassroots organization dedicated to increasing women’s participation in the political process and creating a true women’s political power base to achieve equality for all women. NWPC recruits, trains and supports pro-choice women candidates for elected and appointed offices at all levels of government regardless of party affiliation.
“I’m grateful to the NWPC for their backing and continued support,” said Rep. Sanchez. “As Senator, I will continue to fight for women’s equality related to reproductive rights, medical leave, business opportunities, cancer research and for policies that protect women against violence.”
For 20 years, Loretta Sanchez has been a member of the Congressional Women’s Caucus and has partnered with her colleagues to successfully pass legislation that supports and empowers women. She was a co-sponsor of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair pay Act, which restores the ability for women to use the judicial system to seek redress when facing pay discrimination.
Rep. Nancy Pelosi appointed Loretta to the Homeland Security Committee when it was created after the September 11 attacks.
As is the highest ranking woman on the Armed Services Committee and the founder and Chair of the Congressional Women in the Military Caucus, Loretta led the charge for equal opportunities for women in the military, including opportunities to equally serve in combat.
In 2005, Rep. Sanchez successfully pushed to address sexual assault in the military with policy that protects victims, empowers prosecutors, and creates a zero-tolerance policy toward sexual assault and abuse.
Loretta Sanchez is endorsed by the National Association of Women Business Owners, Latinas Lead California, and by Women in Leadership. She also has the backing of California Congresswomen including:
- Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-27), Congresswoman Susan Davis (CA-53)
- Congresswoman Anna Eshoo (CA-18), Congresswoman Janice Hahn (CA-44),
