Former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan Endorses Loretta Sanchez for the U.S. Senate
Los Angeles – “Tough Enough to Turn LA Around” was Richard Riordan’s winning campaign slogan for Los Angeles Mayor in 1993, and “tough” is how he describes Loretta Sanchez today as he endorses her candidacy for the U.S. Senate.
“I’ve known Loretta Sanchez for many years, she is tough and not afraid to take a stand on important issues,” said Mayor Riordan. “Loretta knows how to work with Democrats, Republicans, and Independents. She is the leader we need in the U.S. Senate.”
Mr. Riordan was elected Mayor of Los Angeles in 1993 and reelected by an overwhelming margin four years later, with more than 60 percent of the voters supporting his efforts to improve public safety, create quality jobs, and reform Los Angeles’ public schools. He is known and respected for working across party lines, and for helping revitalize the Los Angeles economy.
“I have tremendous respect for Mayor Riordan’s commitment to public service, and I’m honored to have his endorsement for the U.S. Senate,” said Rep. Loretta Sanchez. “Coming from a working-class family, I know that nothing pulls people out of poverty more effectively than a good paying job, and as U.S. Senator, I will work with leaders across the aisle, business and labor leaders, and workers to strengthen our economy so that more Californians may have economic security.”
“Loretta is an independent thinker and a proven leader that made the right decision under extreme pressure when she voted “No” on the Iraq war,” added Riordan. “I encourage voters across California to join me in supporting Loretta Sanchez for U.S. Senate.”
Richard Riordan joins with dozens of local, state and federal leaders from across California that have endorsed Loretta Sanchez for the U.S. Senate.
