Orange County Judicial candidate Karen Lee Schatzle today announced the Republican Party of Orange County overwhelmingly voted to endorse her for the Superior Court Office Number 48 seat.
Schatzle, an Orange County Senior Deputy District Attorney, won the endorsement vote by a 24-7 margin late Monday night. The action occurred after the Endorsements Committee had recommended no endorsement.
“My campaign for integrity, ethics and for keeping Orange County residents safe won out over what looked like smoke-filled backroom politics,” Schatzle said. “Some members of the committee sadly and surprisingly seemed to want to protect the incumbent Judge Scott Steiner, despite the censure he received from the California Commission on Judicial Performance for sexual and other misconduct. One committee member actually said that he put his friendship with Steiner first.”
“My effort to make sure that the Orange County Superior Court focuses on providing justice and protecting residents of our community prevailed,” Schatzle said. “I have focused this campaign on making sure the courts follow the highest ethical standards as possible. I have stressed my experience of protecting society from violent criminals as a prosecutor and probation officer. I will continue such work on the court.”
Schatzle has three decades of experience of fighting crime and protecting families as an Orange County prosecutor and probation officer. As a judge, she will use her background to keep communities in Orange County safe and to ensure the judicial branch always acts with strong ethics and solid integrity.
The Republican Party of Orange County’s endorsement of Schatzle follows a “Well Qualified” ranking she received from the Orange County Bar Association. The Bar Association had rated Schatzle’s opponent Steiner as “Not Qualified,” the only Superior Court candidate to receive such a ranking. Schatzle’s endorsement by the Republican Party of Orange County also follows similar endorsement by various Orange County law enforcement and court groups. The other endorsements include:
- Police Officers Association representing Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Fullerton Fountain Valley, Los Alamitos, Westminster, Anaheim and Brea.
- * The Police Officers Research Association of California.
- *The Hispanic Bar Association of Orange County.
- The Civil Action Committee of the Association of the Orange County Deputy District Attorneys.
- * And the Orange County Superior Court Reporters Association.
“These groups know that I will put justice, integrity, ethics first on the court,” Schatzle said.
