Assemblywoman Young Kim is hosting a Campaign Kickoff Celebration on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at 10:00 a.m., at the Northwest OCGOP Headquarters, located at 11296 Beach Blvd., in Stanton. If you have any questions about the event you may email Bryan@YKAssembly.com.
Kim is squaring off again in the June Primary Election against Democrat Sharon Quirk-ilva, a public school teacher that Kim defeated in 2014, when Kim seized the 65th Assembly District, with 54% of the vote as compared to 45% for Quirk-Silva, according to Around the Capitol.
The 65th Assembly District encompasses parts of north Orange County, centered on the city of Fullerton. The primarily suburban district is ethnically and socioeconomically diverse, according to Wikipedia. The cities in the district include:
- Orange County – 4.1%
- Anaheim – 38.9%
- Buena Park
- Garden Grove – 0.4%
- La Palma
The independent/Decline to State voters could be the key to victory in the 65th Assembly District, where the Republicans account for 35.2% of the voters, the Democrats make up 36.7% of the voters and the independent/Decline to State voters total 23.9% of the vote.
Quirk-Silva will once again depend on the same Latino voters who didn’t bother to vote in 2014 to put her over the top, while Kim will count on Asian voters, who make up 21.8% of the voters. to reelect her. Latino voters in the district total 23% of the voters.
