Huff Issues Statement in Response to Appeals Court Ruling on Teacher Tenure
SACRAMENTO: Senator Bob Huff (R-San Dimas) issued the following statement today in response to an appeals court decision that overturned a ruling from Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Rolf Treu, who found that five provisions of the California Education Code were unconstitutional.
“Justices who serve on the Second District Court of Appeal in Los Angeles have served up a menu of continued educational failure for our state’s students and parents. The decision to overturn Judge Treu’s ruling on teacher tenure and other areas of the education code only serves to deny our students access to great schools, great teachers and a learning experience like no other. This ruling locks many of our children into low-performing schools and denies them the highest quality education we can give them.”
“The California Constitution establishes a fundamental right of every child to a basic education and equitable opportunity to learn. This ruling denies that fundamental right and should be appealed at the earliest possible opportunity.”
Senator Huff is the former Vice-Chair of the Senate Education Committee and still serves on that committee. He is the author of numerous education reforms, including the historic Parent Empowerment Act and countless other measures to empower parents and students. He represents the 29th Senate District covering portions of Los Angeles, Orange and San Bernardino Counties. Follow Senator Huff on Twitter @bobhuff99.
