It looks like U.S. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher is going to retire from the 48th Congressional District. Former OC GOP Chairman Scott Baugh has quietly filed for a campaign committee for Rohrabacher’s seat, with the Federal Election Commission. And Baugh has purchased a URL, http://www.baugh4congress.com.
There is no way that Baugh would challenge Rohrabacher. The OC GOP frowns on challenging their own incumbents. (Just look at how awful Don Wagner looks as he lamely runs against State Senator John Moorlach!)
Baugh is the ultimate company man – and his reward will be replacing Rohrabacher in D.C.
Baugh may be joined in the U. S. House by another former Orange County state legislator, Lou Correa, who has the inside track on the House seat being vacated by U.S.Rep. Loretta Sanchez.
Rohrabacher has been off the rails for some time. It really is time for him to go. But I am not sure Baugh is the right man for the job. I would much rather see someone like Assemblyman Travis Allen go to D.C. Or maybe Senator Moorlach?
Baugh would be just another Republican good old boy. That’s the last thing the GOP needs!
But in the end it might be a woman who replaces Rohrabacher. Supervisor Michelle Steel will surely have an interest in going to the U.S. House.
The 48th Congressional District includes Seal Beach, Sunset Beach, Surfside, Corona del Mar, Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach, Aliso Viejo, Newport Coast, Newport Beach, Laguna Niguel, Fountain Valley as well as portions of Midway City, Westminster, Santa Ana and Garden Grove.
