REP. LORETTA SANCHEZ STATEMENT ON SCOTUS DECISION TO REVIEW IMMIGRATION EXECUTIVE ACTIONS
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-46), senior member of the Homeland Security Committee, released the following statement after the U.S. Supreme Court announced it would review the President’s Immigration Executive Actions—Deferred Action for Parental Accountability (DAPA) and expanded Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA):
“The battle to fix our broken immigration system has reached our Supreme Court. Allowing DAPA and the expanded DACA programs to move forward will allow many hard-working immigrant families to come out of the shadows.
“President Obama’s executive actions followed precedents set in the last 50 years by Presidents from both parties. I am hopeful that the Supreme Court will recognize the legality and importance of President Obama’s executive actions for our immigrant families.
“I am optimistic that the Supreme Court will issue a decision upholding and affirming these actions before the end of the current term in June. However, Congress must do its job and act now in passing comprehensive immigration reform. America deserves a fair and just immigration system, and our hard-working immigrant families have waited long enough.”
Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez is proud to represent California’s 46th Congressional District, which includes the cities of Anaheim, Santa Ana, and parts of the cities of Garden Grove and Orange in Orange County. She serves as Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces and as the second ranked Democrat on the Committee on Homeland Security
