When the Republican Party of Orange County held their Central Committee meeting yesterday they didn’t just endorse candidates running in the 2016 Primary Election. The OC GOP also chose their Local Elected Officials of the Year.
OC GOP Chairman Fred Whitaker gave one of the Local Elected Officials of the Year awards to Santa Ana Unified School District Trustee Cecilia Iglesias. She received a State Assembly certificate from Assemblyman Don Wagner’s office.
Iglesias thanked OC GOP Central Committee member Thomas Gordon, Orange County Board of Education Trustee Robert Hammond, and the OC GOP’s Central Committee. Iglesias also said that in her estimate the City of Santa Ana is slowly but surely returning to its conservative values and she hopes to elect more Santa Ana Republicans this year.
Iglesias is up for reelection this year. She angered the local teachers’ union last year when they pushed to use new state funds for a teacher raise while Iglesias sought to use the money in the classrooms. The teachers’ union is backing a union organizer, Gloria Alvarado, against Iglesias.
Whitaker also presented a Local Elected Official of the Year award to Lake Forest Councilman Dwight Robinson.
Robinson spoke about his family and also about freedom and liberty. He mentioned good governance and the importance of making his community a better place for his children. He referenced Irvine Mayor Steven Choi and the City of Irvine as an example. He also discussed the leadership of his Lake Forest City Council colleague Scott Voigts (who looked bad last night when he was one of only two speakers to support Assemblyman Don Wagner’s ridiculous campaign against State Senator John Moorlach). Robinsona also talked about O.C. Supervisor Shawn Nelson andhe discussed the AQMD Board, job retention, and economic growth. Robinson was presented with an Assembly certificate by Assemblyman Wagner.
