Karina Onofre (D-Irvine) announced today on Facebook that she will be running once again this year for the 74th Assembly District, which is currently held by State Assemblyman Matt Harpe (R-Huntington Beach).
Onofre is a Home Mortgage Consultant at Wells Fargo Bank. She has worked for U.S. Rep. Loretta Sanchez and State Senator Bob Huff.
Onofre quit the Republican Party in 2014, when she returned to the Democratic Party. She also ran for the 74th A.D. that year.
The Democrats had two candidates in the 74th A.D. primary in 2014. The other candidate was Anila Ali, a horrendous candidate who ran on a platform of creating more government jobs.
Newport Beach City Councilman Keith Curry and Harper were the top two vote-getters in 2014 in the 74th A.D. Harper then beat Curry in the 2014 General Election.
Onofre previously ran for the Santa Ana City Council in 2012. She got more than 20,000 votes but lost to Roman Reyna, who ran for Mayor of Santa Ana in 2014 but lost badly to longtime Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido.
Here is the message Onofre posted to her supporters this morning on Facebook:
Good Morning Everyone,
I feel like I have unfinished business that I need to attend to on behalf of my constituents, and that is to run for California State Assembly 74th District. I have heard from many of my constituents, colleagues and fellow politicians that Matt Harper is not representing all of the people of our distric. So I’m throwing my name in the hat as a proud Democrat and God willing this time I will win to be the voice of our diverse district. Please reach out to me with your suggestions and comments, because to win, I’m going to need all of your help and support. Thank you!
Humbly Yours,
Karina Onofre
Someone should explain to her what a “constituent” is in a political context – constituents are the people politicians have been elected to represent.
She has no constituents, she hasn’t been elected to anything – and likely never will be elected to anything.
Wow a tea party candidate claiming to be a democrat
Ms onofre what is your stance on abortion
Your video states you are pro life and anti gay marriage
What are you republican or tea party
Also great to hear you are not getting the endorsements of the Orange County dem clubs
