Assemblyman Don Wagner, unbelievably, is apparently going to run once more for the State Senate seat that is now held by John Moorlach, over in the 37th State Senate District, according to OC Political.
Moorlach beat Wagner in 2014 in the March 2015 special election for the 37th Senate District, by over 4,700 votes, according to Smart Voter.
Wagner spent $493,000 in that Special Election while Moorlach spent $276,000 – and won. Currently Moorlach has $31,299.92 in cash-on-hand across two committees (Moorlach for Senate 2015 and Moorlach for Senate 2016) while Wagner had $84,416.71 cash-on-hand across three committees (Wagner for Senate 2016, Wagner for Assembly 2014, Wagner for Attorney General 2018).
Apparently both Moorlach and Wagner have submitted applications to the Republican Party of Orange County for endorsement for the 37th Senate District. The OC GOP Central Committee is meeting on January 18 to determine which Primary Election candidates to endorse.
Wagner is supported by former Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle, who is now a lobbyist. Presumably Pringle wants his boy Wagner in Sacramento where he can team up with Assemblyman Tom Daly (69th Assembly District) to ensure that our tax money is wasted on building the Anaheim Streetcar, which will only be of value to Disneyland. These people have not learned their lesson after blowing millions on the ridiculous ARTIC train station.
Wagner is wasting his time. Moorlach has done a great job as our State Senator in the 37th District and he has garnered plenty of press for pointing out how much money is being wasted by Caltrans – while Governor Jerry Brown cries about needing more money for fixing our highways.
The Republican voters are in a sore mood this year. I can’t imagine they will get behind the likes of Wagner when Moorlach has been such a conservative champion in Sacramento.
