REP. LORETTA SANCHEZ STATEMENT ON ELECTION OF PAUL RYAN AS NEXT SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-46) released the following statement after the House of Representatives elected Congressman Paul Ryan as the next Speaker of the House:
“While we don’t see eye to eye on policy issues, I’m hopeful that Speaker Paul Ryan will strive to unite the Republican Party and help repair the dysfunction in Congress.
“I look forward to working with Speaker Ryan, if he intends to work with Democrats in good faith. I know that Speaker Ryan is popular with his conservative colleagues and that his Speakership may result in a more unified voice for the Republican Party.
“At the same time, we need to do more to end years of legislative inaction. Moving forward, we must put the interests of the American people at the forefront of politics.
“Although Speaker Ryan supported the recent bipartisan budget agreement, we still have a long way to go in Congress to protect the interests of our seniors, students, veterans and working families.
“Furthermore, comprehensive immigration reform is long overdue and I will press Speaker Ryan to end the inaction on this critical issue.”
Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez is proud to represent California’s 46th Congressional District, which includes the cities of Anaheim, Santa Ana, and parts of the cities of Garden Grove and Orange in Orange County. She serves as Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces and as the second ranked Democrat on the Committee on Homeland Security.
