The people of Fountain Valley have been stuck with the same trash hauler, Rainbow, since 1957 because all of the City Councils in the years since have continued a ridiculous evergreen contract with Rainbow Environmental Services.
Why in the world would these politicians willfully choose to rip off their constituents by forcing them to pay more for trash hauling? I imagine that Rainbow has been stuffing the Council Members’ campaign coffers since 1957.
Now Rainbow is trying to pull another fast one. They realize how bad their self-serving evergreen contract looks so now they are offering something just as bad under a different name. They want a “fixed term” contract that would start in 2035. Here is the rub – the City of Fountain Valley will still be stuck with Rainbow under no bid circumstances.
Think about how awful that is – do you make any big financial decisions without considering your options? You expect that in socialist Venezuela or communist Vietnam but certainly not in Fountain Valley, USA.
What all this means is that the people of Fountain Valley are now paying $18.84 for trash hauling while their counterparts in the City of Orange pay $11.42 and folks in the City of Irvine pay only $10.79 a month.
Exactly ONE Fountain Valley Councilman is opposing the annual gift to Rainbow and that is Mark McCurdy.
McCurdy has an uphill battle in front of him as the city staff is all for ripping off the people of Fountain Valley.
Rainbow is offering to increase the commercial franchise fee from 5 percent to 9 percent over two years – with the disposal company picking up the tab for another percentage point the third year, 2018, according to the O.C. Register.
The Rainbow proposal states: “Once fully implemented, a 10 percent commercial franchise fee would result in additional annual revenue to the city in the amount of $234,635.”
What that means is that Rainbow and the Fountain Valley city staffers are conspiring to rip off local businesses with this unnecessary franchise fee – so the city can put the money in their general fund and spend it as they like.
Fountain Valley is a small town with not so many voters – so the horrible politicians on the City Council keep getting re-elected. The people of Fountain Valley need to wake up to what is happening. The bums at City Hall need to be thrown out in the next election! And clearly it is time to clean house with the city staffers too – starting with their city manager, Bob Hall.
McCurdy is fighting a lonely fight. If you live in Fountain Valley I urge you to join him in fighting back against Rainbow and City Hall! Contact him via Facebook here.
You should also contact the rest of the Fountain Valley City Council and let them know how disappointed you are that they are conspiring to rip you off:
