Former Brea City Councilman Roy Moore passed away this morning according to the Brea Police Department’s Facebook page.
Moore did not leave much of a footprint on the Internet. I could not even find a bio online. He served on the Brea City Council for 16 years according to The Brean.
Moore was an ally of longtime Brea City Councilman Marty Simonoff. His critics knocked him for going along with Simonff’s schemes.
Moore last ran for the Brea City Council in 2010, when he was the top vote-getter, according to Smart Voter.
In 2014, Moore urged the voters to dump the Brea City Council incumbents, Mayor Brett Murdock and Councilman Ron Garcia and elect three new people, according to the O.C. Register. However Garcia disarmed Moore by announcing he was not going to run again. Nevertheless Moore’s “Operation Clean Sweep” succeeded in defeating Garcia’s endorsed candidates – Brett Murdock and Mike Kim. A Moore ally, Glenn Parker, won as did conservative Steven Vargas and business owner Cecilia Hupp.
Moore later tried to get appointed as the Brea City Treasurer, a post Parker vacated when he won a Council seat. However that appointment went to William Christensen.
Our condolences go to Moore’s family. While he had his critics he did serve the people of Brea as best he could. He also served for many years on the boards of the Vector Control District and the Orange County Sanitation District.
