Statement by Assemblywoman Kim on Proposed Legislation to Weaken Prop 13
SACRAMENTO – Assemblywoman Young Kim, R-Fullerton, today issued the following statement in response to Wednesday’s announcement by two Senators that they will introduce legislation to weaken Prop. 13.
“I am disappointed, but not surprised, that the majority party would introduce legislation to weaken Prop. 13. This assault on California’s most important taxpayer protection measure not only threatens to raise taxes on struggling small businesses, but the net effect would be higher prices for consumers and fewer jobs for hardworking families.
“Voters approved new taxes in 2012, and California’s revenues are increasing. But this isn’t enough for some in Sacramento, and now they’re setting their sights on job creators and property owners to take in even more money from them.
“I came to Sacramento to defend taxpayers and fight against damaging legislation like this. I will continue to fight any assault on taxpayers’ wallets and defend Prop. 13.”
Kim represents the 65th Assembly District, which includes the communities of Anaheim, Buena Park, Cypress, Fullerton, La Palma, and Stanton.
