It is really bothering me that so many political pundits are referring to John Moorlach’s victory over Don Wagner, in the 37th State Senate District Special Election, as an upset. It was not an upset. Moorlach was by far the more accomplished of the two candidates. Moorlach had a much higher name I.D. And Moorlach was the only legitimate conservative in the race.
Wagner raised more money and spent more money, thanks in part to the unions and the other special interests. That did not make him the frontrunner. He had very little name I.D. going into this election. He was an obscure Community College Trustee, with a checkered reputation, who lucked into a State Assembly seat. If anything a Wagner victory should have rightly been perceived as a longshot against a formidable candidate like Moorlach.
Now that Moorlach has won it is time to remember the RINO Republicans who joined the unions and the loathsome Curt Pringle in supporting Wagner:
- Congressional Reps. Ed Royce, Dana Rohrabacher and Mimi Walters
- Supervisors Todd Spitzer, Michelle Steel and Supervisor Andrew Do
- Senators Janet Nguyen and Pat Bates and Senate GOP Leader Bob Huff
- Shawn Steel
- Anaheim Council Members Lucille Kring, Harry Sidhu and Kris Murray
- See more names here
These disgusting Republicans did not back Moorlach because he is not and never will be their lackey. Wagner was their boy because he was going to do as he was told. We are so fortunate that he lost!
Moorlach has a chance to establish himself as a statewide brand. He has potential to one day run for a statewide office. Wagner would never in a million years be a worthy statewide candidate.
And Moorlach can be trusted to go to Sacramento and kick tail. He will do all he can to reform public employee pensions and to stop high speed rail. He won’t back down or sell out to Pringle. For that we should all be grateful.
The repercussions from this race are massive. No one comes out of this a bigger loser than Sidhu, who was frothing at the mouth at the prospect of running for Wagner’s Assembly seat. Now Sidhu will fade into the same obscurity that will one day envelop Wagner.
You also have to wonder if the special interests that stuff Pringle’s wallet will at some point lose faith in him. He clearly has lost his mojo! The voters of Orange County are waking up to just how badly he has ripped us all off over the years.
The conservatives, led by Deborah Pauly, who worked hard to defeat Wagner are now energized and organized. This should come as very bad news to Orange County’s RINOs. I can’t wait for the 2016 elections!
