Governor Jerry Brown has issued a proclamation setting the special election date for the open 37th State Senate District seat. The primary will be held on March 17, 2015 and the special election, if necessary, will be held on May 19, 2015.
As I have announced previously, I will file to run for this seat and look forward to meeting voters and sharing my vision for this office.
I am proud to have the endorsement of the previous State Senator, now Congresswoman Mimi Walters and the endorsement of Congressman Ed Royce. I also have the endorsements of most of my Republican colleagues in the Legislature. Among my Senate endorsements are Orange County Senators Pat Bates, Janet Nguyen, and Republican leader Bob Huff. In the Senate, too, I am supported by, among others, Senate Republican Caucus chairman Tom Berryhill, Senators Mike Morrell, Joel Anderson, Jean Fuller, Ted Gaines, and Jim Nielsen.
In the county, I am gratified by the support I have received from Supervisor Michelle Steel and most of the county elected officials, including Sheriff Sandra Hutchens, District Attorney Tony Rackauckus, Clerk-Recorder Hieu Nguyen, and Auditor-Controller Eric Woolery. So too, many local elected officials from city councils and school boards in the State Senate District have endorsed me.
In the Assembly where I have served in a leadership for the last four years, I am endorsed by, among others, Republican leader Kristin Olsen and former Republican leaders Connie Conway and Martin Garrick, Republican Assembly Caucus chairman Scott Wilk, Orange County Assembly MembersTravis Allen, Young Kim, Bill Brough, and Ling Ling Chang, and Assembly Members Brian Jones, Rocky Chavez, Brian Dahle, Chad Mayes, Melissa Melendez, Eric Linder, Brian Maienschein, Shannon Grove, Jim Patterson, Katcho Achadjian, and Frank Bigelow.
Finally, numerous business groups and taxpayer advocacy organizations support my run for this seat. I am endorsed by the National Federation of Independent Businesses, the California Small Business Association, and the Associated Builders and Contractors. More endorsements will be added in the coming days as other groups and individuals weigh in.
I am putting together a dedicated, experienced, and well-financed campaign team and intend to win this race so that I may continue to serve the people of central and coastal Orange County in the legislature. There is much work left to be done to get our fiscal house in order, to assure continued quality education in Orange County, to make the state more business and family friendly, to upgrade our transportation, water and energy infrastructures, and to make sure that good jobs are available for our citizens.
Thank you for your support. With your help, I am confident we can push our State back in the right direction.
Very truly yours,
Donald P. Wagner
Assembly Member, 68th District
