County Chief Operating Officer Mark Denny might not get appointed as acting CEO next month when County CEO Mike Giancola goes out on medical leave, according to the Voice of OC.
You might recall that Denny got busted once for election fraud, in a scheme engineered by Curt Pringle, as we reported in an earlier post.
Giancola wanted Denny to cover for him while he is out on medial leave but “Orange County officials have engaged a private attorney to review the actions of Chief Operating Officer Mark Denny and other top officials to propose potential disciplinary measures following a scathing internal audit report that revealed nearly a million dollars in questionable, no-bid consulting contracts for professional services at OC Parks while Denny was agency director,” according to the Voice of OC.
“If you have a pending investigation, you shouldn’t be promoted,” said County Supervisor Todd Spitzer, who is pushing back on the plan to promote Denny.
Spitzer also said “that Giancola had assured him that if the pending legal investigation is not concluded by Jan. 21, current Chief Financial Officer Frank Kim will take over as acting CEO.”
Kudos to Spitzer for standing up to the OC GOP machine that put Giancola and Denny in power! If only the O.C. Supervisors would hire qualified public administrators instead of hiring unqualified political hacks…
Having a record of malfeasance is a prerequisite for hiring and promotion at the County of Orange. It demonstrates a willingness and ability to break the law that the Board of Supervisors demands of their executives. Individuals with ethics and integrity need not apply.
Well, that pretty much sum’s it up. I would add that employees with ethics and integrity need not stay – you will get blackballed out. The BOS knows what is going on at all times and the CEO and the COO do their bidding. It is simply amazing how far this gang will go to discredit a person who tells the truth, follows the rules/law and refuses to do what is clearly wrong. It is equally amazing how far they will go to protect those who do their dirty work and keep their secrets.
The Mauk Doctrine: Staff pursues the BOS vanity projects no matter how idiotic or wasteful without a whimper, and the BOS protects incompetent staff. Three words sum up the incestuous relationship that puts the taxpayer last: Dana Point Harbor.
