During a Nov. 4 City Council meeting, Councilman Dave Bass said Nick should voluntarily leave office because police last month named him as a suspect in campaign sign thefts. Now Mayor Dwight Robinson has also asked that Nick resign.
Nick was stopped by deputies at about 2 a.m. Oct. 9 with campaign signs belonging to Councilman Scott Voigts in his car., according to the O.C. Register.
Nick ran as a carpetbagger candidate this November in the 46th Congressional District, which includes the Cities of Anaheim and Santa Ana – and is miles away from Lake Forest. Nick lost by over 14,000 votes to the incumbent, Loretta Sanchez.
Nick’s wife, Sherry Walker, also ran as a carpetbagger this year in the 69th Assembly District. She lost to the incumbent, Tom Daly, by over 16,000 votes.
Both Nick and Walker changed their names after arriving in this country from their native country, Iran. Walker just became a Republican this year.
The City of Lake Forest spent a small fortune defending itself from a lawsuit filed by Nick in 2011 after a 7-Eleven store near a convenience store and gas station he owns on Lake Forest Drive was granted a waiver allowing beer and liquor sales.
Nick should resign but it is unlikely that he will do so. He apparently has money to burn and I expect that in two years he will be backing a slate of candidates for the Lake Forest City Council. Hopefully the people of Lake Forest will send Nick packing in 2016 and reject his slate.
