After Months of Diplomatic Pressure, Sgt. Tahmooressi to be Released from Mexican Prison
After 215 days of captivity the decorated combat veteran will be reunited with his family
Murrieta – Assemblywoman Melissa Melendez, R-Lake Elsinore, is pleased to announce that effective today, all charges have been dropped and the immediate release of Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi has been ordered.
“After countless letters and calls they are finally going to release a decorated combat veteran from a Mexican prison.” said Melendez. “I would like to thank and commend the work of my Republican colleagues in the legislature for signing onto my letters to President Barack Obama and the President of Mexico demanding his release, and to those who signed onto my resolution in the state house calling for his release.”
The following legislators agreed to sign the letter: Assemblymembers Travis Allen (Huntington Beach), Frank Bigelow (O’Neals), Tim Donnelly (Twin Peaks), Beth Gaines (Rocklin), Jeff Gorell (Camarillo), Shannon Grove (Bakersfield), Curt Hagman (Chino Hills), Brian Jones (Santee), Dan Logue (Marysville), Brian Maienschein (San Diego), Allan Mansoor (Costa Mesa), Brian Nestande (Palm Desert), Kristin Olsen (Modesto), Jim Patterson (Fresno), Donald Wagner (Irvine), Marie Waldron (Escondido), and Scott Wilk (Santa Clarita); along with Senators Ted Gaines (Rocklin), Bob Huff (Diamond Bar), and Mark Wyland (Escondido).
Assemblywoman Melissa Melendez represents the 67th Assembly District, which includes the communities of Lake Elsinore, Canyon Lake, Murrieta, Menifee, Wildomar and a portion of Hemet. It also includes the Riverside County unincorporated areas of Lake Mathews, Good Hope, Nuevo, and Winchester.
