The Fountain Valley City Council race features two Vietnamese Americans – but they could not be more different from each other.
Incumbent Councilman Michael Vo has a sordid history of selling his vote for campaign contributions. When he did not allow the waste disposal contract in Fountain Valley to go to bid he was rewarded with a campaign contribution from the city’s longtime trash vendor – Rainbow Disposal. The people of Fountain Valley have paid for that deal with trash rates that are among the highest in Orange County!
Vo also recently got caught taking a campaign contribution from Clear Channel, an advertising company that is trying to install a dangerous digital billboard near the Fountain Valley Water Tank. Why is it dangerous? Because it will have freeway visibility for those driving on the 405 Freeway. Studies show that these signs can distract drivers and cause fatal car accidents. But Vo doesn’t care. He already got paid!
City Council challenger Tom Nguyen is everything that tax and spender Vo is not. Nguyen is a hardworking family man. He is an OC product that graduated from Bolsa Grande in Westminster… and from CSU Fullerton. Nguyen ran a large operation at First American Title. He is a businessman with the integrity that Vo is sorely lacking.
Nguyen’s beliefs include:
- Keep local government local self government.
- He favors a decentralized government.
- He believes “We the people” should have the power over the State.
- He believes in a free enterprise system, a free market where we can free ‘bid’ with other trash disposal companies.
- He does not support the monopoly that Rainbow Disposal has over Fountain Valley.
