- 5. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif.
- Net worth: -$924,000
- Rohrabacher is new to the list, but his spot carries an asterisk. One of his biggest liabilities in the calculation — a mortgage exceeding $500,000 — was paid off during 2013. Reporting rules still require him to list that mortgage under his liabilities. Rohrabacher’s biggest reportable asset is an investment of more than $100,000 in a small biotech firm called ISI Life Sciences Inc.
In 2011, R. Scott Moxley at the OC Weekly had this to say about spouse Rhonda Rohrabacher and we wonder if this income was in Roll Call’s calculations:
Costa Mesa Congressman Dana Rohrabacher gave his wife more than 50 percent of the campaign
contributions he raised mostly from corporate sources during July, August and September, according to recently filed records at the Federal Election Commission (FEC) in Washington. The Committee to Re-Elect Congressman Dana Rohrabacher reported raising $21,925 during the three-month period and then paying Rhonda Rohrabacher $11,026…the 12-term congressman from a historically solid Republican district pays his wife about $4,000 a month under the ruse that he needs a full-time campaign manager. Since 2006, Rhonda has collected more than a quarter of a million dollars from her husband’s campaign coffers, according to FEC records.
Rohrabacher has been in Congress since 1988.
