Right, we’ve excited about Janet Nguyen too — will the FBI find what they’re looking for re. her fundraising activities? Will CalOptma find their footing again after Janet single-handedly demolished it and caused many of their senior managers to leave? Will she ever respond to her opponent’s, and the Register’s, assertions that she’s taking care of friends and family with no-show patronage jobs and tax money? It’s also more than discouraging that the (failing) OC Register chose to recommend her in SD34 despite everything they and their media partner, the union-funded Voice of OC have written about her indiscretions and lawlessness.
Tom Q. Nguyen is campaigning hard for City Council in Fountain Valley. Three seats are up, two incumbents want to be re-elected and seven newbies are running for the first or second time. Tom is dropping plenty of signs around this small city and has actively taken his campaign into social media, and especially Facebook as above where he’s discussing local issues like the lack of air conditioning in FV schools as recently reported in the OC Register: Orange County schools reach a boiling point, even tho the Council has no say over the school district budget. Tom Q.’s website even used some of our posts on the trash contract give-away just months ago where it was found that 4/5ths of the Council had taken at least one campaign contribution from Rainbow Environmental, pretty much to ensure their nearly $3 million contract was again renewed without competitive bidding.
We question, however, just how good an idea it was for Tom Q. to score an endorsement from one of the most controversial and, in our opinion, crooked and corrupt politicians in Orange County. If it was because both family names are Nguyen, that doesn’t impress. The racial connotation is unattractive. More troubling in a small town race like this is Janet Nguyen’s shadow — plenty of Fountain Valley residents (i.e. the politically astute and aware ones) are still pissed off at Janet’s unethical maneuvering a few years ago in having the city split between the First (hers) and Second (John Moorlach’s) Supervisorial Districts during the 2010 Re-Districting process. Janet and her operatives knew there were plenty of Vietnamese votes to be had in FV, particularly with a surname like Nguyen. The FV Republcan Assembly opposed the move, the city lost political clout with the County Board of Supervisors and half of it now can’t vote in the Mansoor/Steel SD2 race.
Janet Nguyen is an anathema to many in Fountain Valley. They’re tired of her grimy politicking, the CalOptima mess she created, the patronage handouts and self-promotion, her illegal fundraising (do we need a Republican State Senator with the same legal troubles as ousted Democrats Wright, Yee and Calderon?) and racial manipulation of the voter base. Neither does she seem very bright, or engaged in local issues as she concentrates on her own career. There’s plenty of bad press and more nastiness on her short but lucrative political career here and here.
We hate using worn out clichés, but Tom Q. Nguyen might have been the breath of fresh air that this often tedious little city needed — but as the kids say, we sure don’t care for who he’s hanging with.
