The Libertarian Party’s Presidential nominee in 2012, former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson, will be here in Newport Beach for two events this month. The first is at 6:00 pm on Friday evening, September 26,2014, for a dinner at the Harborside Restaurant in the Balboa Pavilion, which is located at 400 Main Street on the Peninsula. The second event will be the next morning, where a boat has been charted from Davey’s Locker for a whalewatching trip. The boat will leave at 10:00 on the morning of Saturday, September 27, 2014, and the trip will take about two hours.
Both of these events will be modest fundraisers for “Our America Initiative,” which is helping to fund the lawsuit filed by Governor Johnson and Judge Jim Gray, along with the Libertarian and Green Parties, to force the Commission on Presidential Debates to allow any political party that is on the ballots in enough states technically to win the election for president to be a part of the televised three presidential and one vice presidential debates. As you know, and regardless of your political beliefs, this would be a gamechanger for our political system that would allow all voters to hear more about the important issues of our day, instead of only what the candidates from the larger two parties want us to hear.
So please come to either or both events, as they will really be fun. But space is somewhat limited, so please respond as soon as you can to reserve your places. And if you know other people who would enjoy these opportunities, please spread the word. Just have them respond to this email address.
The event organizers are asking for either $100 per person or $175 per couple to each event. (Make out your checks to “Our America Initiative.) For the Friday event, that will include a dinner in the upstairs semi-private dining room, including tax and tip. (Drinks are not included.) For the Saturday morning event, that will include the entire cost of the whalewatching trip.
Judge Gray says that “I have gotten to know Governor Gary Johnson quite well, particularly after the last election, and now believe more than ever that he is exactly the right and best person for the presidency of our great country. But regardless of who the various candidates turn out to be in 2016, you will enjoy and appreciate the opportunity of speaking with and getting to know this fine and successful public servant. (And Grace and I, as we just will have celebrated our 14th wedding anniversary, will be there as well!)”
