Apparently taking a cue from Democrat Party Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Costa Mesa Councilwoman Sandra Genis recently said former city council candidate “Harold Weitzberg’s last name did not sound like a “Costa Mesa name” per the Daily Pilot.
Weitzberg is Jewish, and Genis was clearly making an anti-Semitic reference to a potential political rival. The incident occurred at a Costa Mesans for Responsible Government meeting late last month.
Pro-union, anti-city charter Genis has been in and out of CM politics since the late ’80s. She wrote of her comments yesterday, “clarifying” them in a Daily Pilot piece by Bradley Zint. In an email, she excused her statement which had “been misconstrued to have a meaning I never intended” — perhaps to low-information voters, but it’s evident to any mature, educated adult that she was inferring Costa Mesa and its politics had no room for Jews.
Genis has long been associated with other lunatic liberals in the south coast area like their long-time champion, the late one-term Fountain Valley councilman “Podcar Gus” Ayer, peak oil promoter and Poseidon hater Debby Cook and Huntington Beach plastic bag deniers Connie Boardman and Joe Shaw.
