AD73: Critics Mislead Voters About Anna Bryson’s Political Stance
By Art Sanchez, Campaign Manager, Anna Bryson for State Assembly 2014
This is the 2nd in a series of blog posts “Setting the Record Straight on Anna Bryson”
Blogger Aaron Park of the Bill Brough camp described Anna as “liberal” in a blog post. Likewise, the “Munger Games” blog attacked Anna (5/21/14) as on “the left.”
Anna is not a liberal and not on the left. She was supported by numerous senior members of the Reagan administration including:
- Edwin Meese, Reagan’s Attorney General
- George Shultz, Reagan’s Secretary of State
- Ken Khachiggian, Reagan’s chief speechwriter
- Peter Robinson, speechwriter (author of the phrase “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall”)
Edwin Meese said: “Anna has the conservative Republican principles and experience to take on the special interests in Sacramento and bring Ronald Reagan’s great state of California back from the current self-destructive anti-jobs policies. Anna is someone who takes the Constitution seriously. She upholds limited government, the obligation of contracts, and the rule of law.”
Anna was the only candidate in the 2014 AD73 race who signed Grover Norquist’s Taxpayer Protection Pledge. Norquist said: “Anna Bryson demonstrates that she understands the problems of hard-working taxpayers of California.”
She received a personal donation from David Koch of the Koch brothers and also a personal donation from the chief public spokesperson for Gov. Sarah Palin’s
Later on 5/29/14 (too late to affect mail-in voting), “Munger Games” stepped back a bit from its false claim that Anna was on the left, acknowledging that ideologically “there is little appreciable difference among the four Republican candidates.” It repeated on June 18, that the four Republican candidates “differed little in terms of ideology.” So after doing the damage, the “Munger Games” blog admitted that Anna and the other GOP candidates are all conservatives with very similar views.
Verdict: Anna Bryson — not a liberal, not on the left. The “Munger Games” blog in its earlier post and Brough-blogger Aaron Park distorted the beliefs, views, and political stance of Anna Bryson.
The problem remains — as novelist Stephen Carter has one of his characters say in the thriller Jericho’s Fall: “You tell a lie long enough and loud enough, and it’s the man who knows the truth who sounds like the idiot.” That’s why I have had to write this series of blog posts to set the record straight on Anna Bryson.
