Andrew Do, who abruptly resigned as Supervisor Janet Nguyen’s chief of staff four years ago, has quietly returned part time to her county staff while she seeks election to the state Senate, according to county records, according to the Voice of OC.
Do, who is an attorney, sold his share of the Lee’s Sandwiches in Stanton in January of this year, however the record of that sale has mysteriously disappeared from the Orange County Health Care Agency’s website. That restaurant made headlines a few years ago when Supervisor Nguyen was the key vote against restaurant health letter grade ratings. At the time she failed to divulge that Do, her Chief of Staff at the time, and her husband, Tom Bonikowski, co-owned the restaurant, which had racked up plenty of health violations.
Do was also famous for being Nguyen’s money man. His unofficial job was to go get campaign cash and I would imagine that he is doing the very same thing today but now he is getting paid by the taxpayers to the tune of $54 per hour.
Of course it is entirely possible that Do is being paid to work for Nguyen in order to keep his mouth shut. Lord only knows what he knows about Nguyen.
But we know a few things about Do. One of the readers at my original blog, the Orange Juice, caught Do living in Santa Ana while he was serving on the Garden Grove City Council. He didn’t serve on the Council for long. He was elected in 2008 and he quit in 2011, ostensibly to tend to his struggling sandwich shop, according to the Orange County Register.
Nguyen must be pulling out all the stops to ensure she wins in November. Can Jose Solorio, who raised over $500K in the Primary Election but failed to spend it only to have Nguyen kick his tail, find a way to compete in the General Election? Will his Sacramento political consultant, Richie Ross, figure out how to win in Orange County? And is Do the missing piece that Nguyen needed to seal the deal? Or is there something else going on? Don’t expect the local media to figure any of this out…
