A jury found Buena Park Mayor Sangjin Miller Oh guilty Friday of five counts of perjury for falsifying Department of Motor Vehicles documents to avoid making child-support payments. The conviction effectively ends his four-year run on the City Council…Oh, 50, faces a maximum of six years, four months in state prison when he is sentenced Aug. 22.
Reporter Lou Ponsi, who softballed the Fullerton cops in the Register’s coverage of the Kelly Thomas trial, wrote “Prosecutors alleged Oh committed perjury five times, from 2004 to 2009, by signing DMV documents that contained fraudulent information.” The prosecutor was Senior Deputy District Attorney John Christl.
Ponsi failed to point out this was one of the rare instances where Tony Rackauckas’ District Attorney’s office
actually nailed a politician (albeit a minor leaguer). Rackauckas has failed in the past to find any fault with the major purveyors of corruption in Orange County like Mike Carona, Curt Pringle, Miguel Pulido and Larry Agran. T-Rack has also given a pass to Supervisor and SD34 candidate Janet Nguyen, even though she remains under investigation by the FBI.
But then, the Register’s never had a problem with the DA.
