Breaking news – Los Alamitos Councilman Troy Edgar has lost his appeal to be added to the June Open Primary ballot as a candidate for the office of Orange County Clerk-Recorder.
A judge ruled today that OC Voter Registrar Neal Kelley was correct when he tossed out Edgar’s nomination signatures after his consultant, Brett Barbre, and an unnamed female staffer were seen collecting signatures within the Registrar’s office after the 5 pm deadline. Their actions were captured on security video.
Barbre was paid $50,000 by the previous Clerk-Recorder, Tom Daly, to assess the need for an OC Sports Hall of Fame. One of Daly’s former employees, Renee Ramirez, signed Edgar’s nomination papers.
The current Clerk-Recorder, Hugh Nguyen, was selected over Ramirez to replace Daly after Daly moved on to the 69th Assembly District.
It is not yet known if Barbre and Edgar will be prosecuted for allowing signatures to be gathered by a woman who didn’t sign the nomination forms she worked on.
