Former Assemblyman Chris Norby and his wife Martha accused each other of being bipolar in a stunning article posted at the Voice of OC today. Each also accused the other of spousal abuse.
OC Supervisor Shawn Nelson, who is also a criminal defense attorney, bailed out his longtime friend Norby, and is mirroring Norby’s allegations, while Martha actually went to the local office of Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva, who defeated Norby, to ask for help connecting to resources for women in her position.
Nelson is a damn good lawyer so the best help Quirk-Silva can offer to Martha is to refer her to a great divorce lawyer, as that is where this mess is headed.
But you have to wonder, as some of our readers have pointed out, if this disaster was at least somewhat overblown by the Fullerton Police Union, as a means to get rid of Norby, who was threatening to run for the Fullerton City Council.
Norby’s career in politics is surely over at this point. And he is now facing what will be his fourth divorce. He is lucky to have the help of Nelson, but this is surely a distraction that neither of these Republicans needed.
I don’t know that any of this benefits Quirk-Silva, who is facing a tough campaign against Young Kim, a longtime aide to Congressman Ed Royce, who remains very popular in north Orange County.
Norby seems like a nice fellow. I hope the allegations against him are not true. At the same time I know his wife and she is a lot more intelligent than she came off in the Voice of OC article. She speaks excellent Spanish but her grasp of English apparently is not as fully developed. She claims in fact that Norby made fun of how she talks. That would be most unfortunate if it is true.
Norby has a child with Martha and they were raising their mixed brood together. I can only imagine what those poor kids are going through.
