While Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva was launching her re-election campaign tonight at Steamers, in Fullerton, the man she defeated, Chris Norby, was getting arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of domestic violence and child endangerment, according to the OC Register.
n 2010, a criminal case against Norby was rejected by Orange County prosecutors. Police had responded to reports of a man and woman arguing inside his home, with a witness telling authorities that a man had pushed a woman.
Norby’s wife, Martha, is from the Honduras. I have had the pleasure of speaking with her on several occasions. She grew up in the coffee business and helped manage her family’s coffee plantation. She also spoke often of her travels, to Spain and other parts of Europe. I found her to be quite intelligent.
Chris and Martha are somewhat of an odd couple. They remind me of the couple on Modern Family played by Ed O’Neill and Sofia Vergara. You know, the old guy married to the younger Latina, from Columbia.
I can’t imagine what the heck is going on at the Norby residence but I have been married to a Latina myself for 27 years. The key to my marriage has been always letting her be right. I always apologize. I don’t ever try to take the upper hand. And I never let a grudge build up. Perhaps Norby has not learned these matrimonial lessons?
Norby is a member of the OC GOP’s Central Committee. I have a feeling that his alternate will have to take over that post permanently.
There had been rumors that Norby was preparing to run for the Fullerton City Council again. You can stick a fork in that idea now.
I hope that Chris and his wife get some help and are able to resolve their issues. Politics don’t matter in the long run. Your family should always be your top priority.
Norby has been married, I believe, four times. He got busted in 2007 for using campaign funds to rent a hotel room after a fight with a previous wife. I wonder where he will end up sleeping this time?
Marta may be intelligent on some level, but she is a complete nut. This speaks volumes about Norby’s judgment but I really doubt there was any violence (except from her). This happened before and the cops leaked the story to the Voice of OC.
Women will of course say that we’re the ones who drive them nuts!
Getting married four times definitely indicates a problem. My advice to Chris is no more wives, assuming this relationship is over.

Did the cops leak the story to the VOC? Or does Norberto just keep a close ear to chismes and such? I’d like to know.
My impression is this was the FPD’s pre-emptive blast against Norby to keep him from running for Council and being one more vote, an ally for Bruce Whitaker, for police oversight and reform. And maybe put some steel in Sebourn’s spine too. They’ll go this far to avoid oversight?
I think the Fullerton Council needs Ryan Cantor.
The VOC story is interesting in that Norby is blaming his wife. He says she is bipolar. How did he not notice that before he wed her?
Aw, shucks. Love is blind, man.
Isn’t that the truth? Once Cupid decides to pick on you it is game over!
Vern, I think you are on to something. This was leaked PDQ and has all the hallmarks of an Andrew Goodrich move.
Not to dismiss, you know, if there IS any truth to the woman’s allegations and fears. Let’s hope justice is done. AND police reform!
Please note how differently the FPD operates depending on who the allegations of wrongdoing are leveled against.
For instance, former police officer Albert Rincon had 7 sexual misconduct complaints against him from 7 different women. I believe all of those complaints stated that they allegedly occurred while Rincon was on duty. To the best of my knowledge he was never arrested by the FPD and the District Attorney never filed charges. Please note that no written reason for not filing charges against Officer Rincon was ever documented t my knowledge. However, the D.A.’s office verbally stated they did not have enough evidence to convict him.
Now let us review the facts as we currently know them! The FPD had more than enough evidence to arrest Chris Norby on suspicion of domestic violence and child endangerment. Apparently no officer witnessed any misconduct. So based on a he said/she said scenario between a husband and a wife they, the FPD went right ahead and arrested Norby.
However, 7 different women who filed sexual misconduct complaints against then Fullerton Police Officer Albert Rincon was not enough evidence to arrest FPD Officer Rincon. But then again, it was enough evidence for the Fullerton city council to pay 2 of those 7 women $350,000 in return for their silence going forward!
Note the very real and clear discrepancy when comparing when the FPD acts to arrest a member of the public and when it arrests one of its own! Houston we have another problem here!
Barry, your comment would also fit well on our blog – the piece Diamond just wrote. http://www.orangejuiceblog.com/2014/03/norby-and-me-on-domestic-violence-character-and-finding-the-truth/
