The race for OC Auditor-Controller added one more candidate today when Santa Ana-based auditor/tax instructor Mike Dalati jumped into the race. The deadline to join this election had been extended through today because the appointed incumbent did not file for re-election. Dalati joins four other candidates:
- Eric Woolery, Treasurer for the City of Orange
- Frank Davies, CPA – the Director of Property Tax at the office of the OC Auditor-Controller
- John Willard, the Assistant Director of Employee Benefits at the County of Orange
- and James T. Benuzzi, former member of the Audit Oversight Committee, City of Placentia
I would hazard a guess that most of these candidates are Republicans. I believe that Dalati is a Democrat although I have not confirmed that.
I know Dalati. He is a smart guy with lots of experience and he is certainly qualified for this contest, although admittedly he is a longshot given that Woolery has the backing of most of the OC GOP establishment.
But why not run? Orange County has a growing Middle Eastern community and Dalati is also well known among Latino activists in Anaheim and in Santa Ana.
