OC Board of Education Trustee Robert Hammond, who as I understand it is a former Amway salesman, isn’t exactly known for deep thought. But he may have lowered the bar even more with a ridiculous letter he delivered to his colleagues. What it amounts to is Constitutional gibberish.
But don’t take my word for it – click here and check it out for yourself. It is an instant classic. It reminded a friend of mine of the classic clip from the great movie “Blazing Saddles” which we posted atop this post, where an old coot threw down some serious frontier gibberish at a town hall meeting.
If only this were the limit of Hammond’s ridiculousness. But he recently told me in an email that he didn’t think that SAUSD Trustee Cecilia Iglesias should challenge Democratic Assemblyman Tom Daly, in the overwhelmingly Latino 69th Assembly District, because “Latinos don’t have a reason not to vote for Daly.”
Perhaps Hammond was sniffing the Constitution when Daly endorsed giving millions of taxpayer dollars to a hotel developer in Anaheim. Yes, that is a good reason for Latinos to oppose Daly!
Hammond by the way pulled out of a bid to run against Daly in 2012, running instead for the O.C. Board of Education, reportedly at the bidding of OC GOP Chair Scott Baugh and OC Supervisor Janet Nguyen. He did so at the last minute. It appeared to be a gift to Daly until another friend of mine, Jose Moreno, ran as a GOP candidate in that race. The OC GOP of course did not support Moreno. And Daly won after a gaggle of Latino Democrats ousted each other in that year’s primary election.
So I guess Hammond is not done helping his pal Daly out. But hopefully he is done with the Constitutional gibberish. Although I doubt that very much…
