This must make it official — 2nd District County Supervisor John Moorlach will run for John Campbell’s Congressional seat. The FlashReport mentioned Moorlach’s candidacy last July. Campbell announced earlier this year he would not run for a third term.
It’s a crowded field, with termed-out State Senator Mimi Walters probably leading the pack today. Moorlach is termed out of his Supervisorial Seat next year. His campaign website is unfinished at this time.
At the Congressional level, it is not required that candidates live in the District — Moorlach lives in Costa Mesa, and we’ll presume that’s close enough for government work. The District includes parts of all of Villa Park, Tustin, Irvine, RSM, Lake Forest, Laguna Woods, Mission Viejo and Laguna Hills:
Assemblyman Allan Mansoor and BOE Member Michelle Steel are the leading contenders for Moorlach’s Supervisorial seat. HB Councilman Joe Carchio has also shown an interest.
