Celebrate Veterans Day at the Nixon Library with free events all day, on Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, starting at 11 am. Free RSVP here. The event will include a salute to military heroes, a grand performance by the Placentia Symphonic Band and meet CNN’s Jake Tapper, host of “The Lead.”

7PM: Lecture and book signing with Jake Tapper, host of “The Lead” on CNN
The 11AM program in the East Room features a formal Presentation of the Colors, performances by the Villa Park High School Jazz Ensemble and Orange High School Concert Choir and a lecture with The Boston Globe’s national security writer Bryan Bender who will talk his new book You Are Not Forgotten: The Story of a Lost World War II Pilot and a Twenty-First-Century Soldier’s Mission to Bring Him Home. The book is an inspiring true account of a Marine Corps pilot who was shot down in WWII and a modern-day soldier who on a mission to bring home his remains six decades later.
At 2PM, the renowned 90-member Placentia Symphonic Band will perform patriotic favorites in the East Room. Watch a clip from their July 4th performance at the Nixon Library.
Finally, at 7PM, CNN’s Jake Tapper host of “The Lead” and Chief Washington Correspondent will speak about his New York Times bestseller, The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor. The courageous story tells the account of Combat Outpost Keating, where 53 American soldiers defeated nearly 400 Taliban fighters resulting in one of America’s deadliest battles in Afghanistan.
