REP. SANCHEZ RELEASES STATEMENT ON LAX SHOOTING
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Loretta Sanchez (CA-46), senior member on the House Homeland Security Committee today released the following statement regarding the shooting at Los Angeles International Airport on November 1, 2013.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Gerardo I. Hernandez, the brave TSA officer who lost his life last Friday. Hernandez, like all TSA officers, dedicated his work to protecting the traveling public and we are incredibly grateful for his service. My thoughts are also with the other TSA agents and innocent travelers injured in this cowardly act.
“We are indebted to the Los Angeles area public safety officials – from the LAWA Airport Police to the LAPD to the LA County Sheriff’s Department and FBI – for their swift response in this dangerous situation. Their skill and professionalism undoubtedly saved many lives.
“As a member of the House Homeland Security Committee since its inception, I am committed to ensuring the federal government is taking all possible precautions to protect the American people from attacks. I anticipate a full investigation by law enforcement officials and look forward to the findings.”
Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez is proud to represent California’s 46th Congressional District, which includes the cities of Anaheim, Santa Ana, and parts of the cities of Garden Grove and Orange in Orange County. She serves as Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces and the second ranked Democrat on the Committee on Homeland Security. Rep. Sanchez is also a member of the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Coalition and sits on the bipartisan, bicameral Joint Economic Committee.
