Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva Hosts State of Education with State Superintendent Tom Torlakson
Fullerton, CA- More than 200 people attended Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva’s State of Education Update today with State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson, Assemblymember and Chair of the Committee on Education Joan Buchanan, and Orange County Department of Education Superintendent Dr. Al Mijares.
“I was pleased to invite State Superintendent Tom Torlakson to visit Troy High School. As a former teacher and local elected official it is essential to bring state and local policymakers, students, parents, teachers and administrators to discuss how we can work together and increase student success in California schools.”
The event offered several perspectives and legislative updates on current topics affecting students today and the best practices for the future of education in the state.
“As we move forward, we must enact policies that prepare our students with the necessary tools to think critically, understand concepts, and work collaboratively to ensure that they are prepared for a higher education and can compete with their peers in the United States and abroad.”
Troy High School is part of the Fullerton Joint High School District, has over 2,500 students and has been operating since 1964. US News and World Report ranked Troy High School third in Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) programs.
Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva represents the 65th Assembly District, which includes the communities of Buena Park, Cypress, Fullerton, Hawaiian Gardens, La Palma, Stanton, and West Anaheim.
